About

The PCR-4-ALL team aims to strengthen our preparedness to more efficiently deal with future pandemics arising from a yet unknown pandemic-causing pathogen.

The PCR-4-ALL team will do that in a holistic manner by integrating expertise in:

Epidemiologic modelling and e-health platforms.

Disease econometrics

High-throughput screening, diagnostic technologies and clinical testing of infectious diseases

Our team intends to develop and validate the key components of a pandemic response strategy based on affordable, mass and systematic PCR testing to enable early detection and isolation of potential infectious individuals.

We envision that such a strategy would enable to, as soon as a potential pathogen has been genetically characterized, carry out large screening campaigns among the population to first obtain, during the early days of an arising pandemic, relevant surveillance information on the epidemiology of this pathogen (which could be used to rapidly inform public health policies), but to also put in the hands of health authorities the mechanisms to deal with an arising pandemic more effectively without the need to resort to economy-damaging measures.
